Tell me a little about yourself.

Originally from Rochester, NY,  I graduated from Springfield College (Springfield, Mass.) with a degree in Strength and Conditioning. After finishing up my last internship outside of Boston, my girlfriend (now my wife) and I made the move to Denver. It was a big decision and honestly, I didn’t know what I was doing. I had never been west of South Bend, Ind., at that time in my life. It was the best decision I ever made and has allowed Katie and I to redefine ourselves and our lifestyle.

Have you had other careers before becoming a real estate broker? If so, what were they and how has that experience impacted your real estate career?

I worked for seven years in the strength and conditioning industry. I’ve also spent 6 years in the Colorado Army National Guard. The fitness world taught me how to listen to people, understand their story, their struggles, and their goals.

The Army National Guard has taught me about the importance of transparency, communication, and various leadership styles.

“There are so many different ways to help people be successful and solve problems. It’s a field that is ample with creativity and outside-the-box thinking.” – Matt Malloy

How did you get interested in real estate?

Several of my close friends and I got into the field in various roles at the same time. I was looking to switch gears professionally and started working as an intern at a real estate office in between shifts at the gym. I started to really enjoy the opportunities and the problem-solving associated with the field. There are so many different ways to help people be successful and solve problems. It’s a field that is ample with creativity and outside-the-box thinking. I slowly developed a passion for it.

Talk about the Denver real estate market generally and what makes it exciting for you.

The general pace and dynamism of the market is exciting. The speed at which people have to move and the competition create a lot of room for creativity and growth. The real estate industry is evolving in front of our eyes and Denver is ground zero.

Any hobbies or pursuits that you’d like to share?

As a member of the Guard, I have pursued multiple military schools and goals. I like to have something physical and challenging to work towards. Recently, I started putting less time into the military, and I’ve been pursuing more time snowboarding. I’ve become a big fan of orienteering and am looking forward to the local competitions this summer. I’m beginning to take on rock climbing and look to pursue some different outdoor activities.

Who or what provides the most inspiration for you?

I’m an avid self-improver. I really just try to be a better version of myself. I love people who are self-aware, well-rounded, and who possess dynamic skill sets and personalities.

What are you currently reading or listening to?

I’m a military history junkie and probably consume too much of it! I also love the Wild West and the 1800s. I think it’s a fascinating time in history. On the business side, I’m reading (slowly) Managing By the Numbers, Ninja Selling, and dedicating myself to learning more about sales and the business side of real estate.

What is your favorite Denver area neighborhood and why?

I do love the Olde Town Arvada area. My wife and I have lived here for 4 years. The access to restaurants, Denver, and I-70 really make this place appealing. The development has been very fun to watch.

What do you find most desirable about the Denver area? What would you tell people who are considering a move here?

It’s about the lifestyle. For all that Denver has to offer, the entire state of Colorado has even more to offer. The combination of the two is really what makes the area and the state so appealing. The sunshine, commitment to health, skiing, and generally the outdoors are the reasons Denver will continue to be high on people’s list.

How do you make the buying/selling experience unique for your clients?

I try to listen and understand their pain points. This entire process is about them, their timeline, and their goals. I try to be as transparent as possible and stay one step ahead of the contract process, and dilute the emotional highs and lows that go with buying and selling a home.

What do you enjoy most about being on the Usaj Realty team?

The people and the team are fantastic. There is an industry-standard for agent fees and commissions, but the service and value vary greatly throughout the field. Usaj is really a top-notch agency that works to deliver exceptional service and value.
