Introducing….the Limelight Awards!
Decades ago, the only awards the LoDo District could have possibly bestowed were for best of class in crumbling warehouses and scariest Postal Office annex ever.
Begun in the 1990s and continuing today, the revitalization of this once desperate and blighted Denver neighborhood, Lower Downtown is now celebrated yearly by the LoDo District, Inc. This membership organization supports this truly unique historical, retail and residential neighborhood, through marketing, education and advocacy.
Each year, LoDo District presents the Limelight Awards. These kudos recognize members of the community that make LoDo such a special place to live, work, and play. This annual event also serves as one of LoDo District’s primary fundraisers, allowing the organization to for and support Lower Downtown and its business and residential community.
This Year’s Award Winnners Are …
Award winners this year included our own Jenny Usaj for her service to the neighborhood. Usaj and her husband Anton founded Usaj Realty in 2011 and located it in now vibrant LoDo. They also live in nearby in the Riverfront Park neighborhood.
Other winners included Erika Johnson Miller (Service to the Organization) and Sue Zoby (Cares Award). John Imbergamo, founder of the Imbergamo Group, was also recognized for his continuing marketing and communications efforts to make the restaurants of LoDo the best in the city.
Attended by many Denver dignitaries including Governor John Hickenlooper and Westword’s Patricia Calhoun, both of whom were key in the transformation of LoDo, the Limelight Awards remind the community of the selfless acts of individuals who strive to make Denver a better place to live and do business.
History of the LoDo District
The LoDo District, Inc. was formed in 1989 when a loosely organized group of Lower Downtown property owners joined with a marketing entity named the District Collaborative to form what is now known as the LoDo District. This joint effort produced a diverse group of men and women whose community and philanthropic interests were focused on the needs of the neighborhood.
- Influence public policies on present and future issues in this mixed-use neighborhood.
- Preserve the integrity of its historic designation.
- Promote neighborhood businesses to residents, visitors and tourists.
- Build collaborative initiatives between LoDo members.
- Present issue-related forums/lectures to benefit the membership and the community at large.
The LoDo District is committed to striking a balance between growth and preservation.
Denver’s oldest neighborhood, is home to some of the city’s best-known restaurants, galleries, shops and boutiques. Located in the heart of downtown, businesses ranging from finance and real estate to retail and start-ups can be found in LoDo.
