Bungalows were considered practical and affordable by many people of different social classes between 1880-1930, and were a common style of house at the time. • Monterey Colonial: Monterey Colonial style homes were first designed in the 19th century in California, but expanded throughout the West and were still being built as late as the mid-1900s. The Monterey Colonial style is a take on the Spanish Colonial style which was characterized by a low-pitched roof and a cantilevered second-story balcony. The second-story balcony is covered by a principal roof, and French doors usually lead onto the balcony and give the home a feel that people are free to interpret as they wish.

• Postmodern Architecture: Postmodern Architecture is the architectural style common among the homes in Sloan’s Lake (and throughout Denver). It took root in the early 1960s when buildings began to take on a more modern feeling but around Denver, it didn’t start regularly appearing until the 1990s when homes were being scraped and replaced with new builds. Postmodern architecture puts the main emphasis on the building’s facade while still working in historical elements of other types of architecture along with the more modern feel that buildings have today. There are a variety of fragmentation and historical allusions that make postmodern architecture one of the most diverse and interesting periods of architecture ever recorded.

• Tudor Ranch: Tudor homes became popular in Denver in the late 1920s. Typical of this style are a steeply pitched roof, prominent chimneys on the front of the home, detailed brick, and an entryway gable (Denver Urbanism).

• Victorians: Victorians come in all shapes and sizes in the Sloan’s Lake neighborhood. Depending on care given, they can be beautiful gems or diamonds in the rough. By the mid-1890s, the Victorian style’s popularity began to fade in Denver due to it’s ornate and expensive execution (Denver Urbanism).
